I started this blog back in 2008. Some of my posts documented my so called ‘Party Life’. You know, I’d crash events. Say I’m with the DJ. And just like that, Nat + 1 made it in yet another celeb filled, exclusive, open bar event. Like the Apollo 75th Anniversary.

Tons of fun, right?

My friends back home thought I was running this city… per Facebook photos and this here blog. But in real life, Nat wasn’t that “party all the time” chick. That was then. You should see me now. After a few years of NYC living, you get over that rockstar lifestyle. It gets old. Hell, I got old.

I mean, I’m not a square. I’ll definitely make it out to a good party. But it gotta be GOOOOOOOD. I mean, real GOOD. The venue has to be tight. Crowd must be to my liking. And most importantly, I MUST know who is DJing. The DJ makes the party.

About 3 weeks ago, my girlfriend (Thx, Ange) sends me this invite for her job’s corporate event. See below:

*jaw drops*

Practically everything I care about in life was on this invitation. Skates. Free Alcohol. Cereal. Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches. 80s/90s music. Period.

When I created my May 2011 Social Calendar for my fabulous NYC chicas, I posted this event in BIG BOLD GRAFETTI font. This event can’t be missed. Nothing happening on May 19th can trump this. You gotta be a fool to miss it. I’ll go ALONE if I have to. Those were my thoughts.

I rallied up the gals. Some flaked. You know who you are. I came away with 2 troopers who were down for the cause. Hey Tiff & Coco.

My outfit! What in the world am I going to wear? Well, this is what I came away with? Likey?

Over the top, but that’s ok. When I do it, I do it big. You should try it some time.

Sidebar: I was the only one dressed up. Ask me if I care.

Upon our arrival, we had to sign a waiver. Here’s why:

Good Units (the venue) does not want to be liable for any injuries that may occur at this event. Good Units is an event space. Not an official skating rink. (I don’t think there’s a roller skating rink in Manhattan.) There’s an open bar. The liquor is a flowin. There are people who don’t know how to skate. Not me. I’m a pro. I own skates. Pink ones with glitter foam letters attached that read “No Skating Allowed” (#greekpun) Been doing this since I was 5. Yep. I had those Fisher Price adjustable joints. Don’t Play!

I digress.

So the waiver… we have alcohol, non-skaters, strobe lights, uneven pavement /stairs & drinking in the “rink” meaning wet floors thanks to the non-skaters. NO MOP in sight. Oh wait, there was a mop. We used it for the limbo contest. Bwahhhhhhh! Sign your life away and the good people at Good Units ain’t responsible.

Me to the person standing in front holding up the line because they were actually reading the waiver: “Yooo! What’s the hold up? Sign me up! They playing my sooooong!!”

Which brings me to my next topic… the DJ.

If you ain’t familiar with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kill Yo Self! He started his set with the theme song from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. Raise your hand if you don’t know the words to that? I’ll wait.

I started to plot in my head how I was going to get past Jazzy’s camp and steal his laptop. Seriously. If it was a hit in the 80’s/90’s, he played it. From New Kids on the Block to Tone-Loc. We’d be here all day if I listed all the records he played. Ok, I’ll say a few more… Aerosmith, Phil Collins, Niravana ("Feels like Teen Spirit"), MJ, Prince, Sir Mix A Lot, Young MC, MC Hammer, Rob Base, KRS-1, Slick Rick, JJ FAD ("Supersonic"), Montell Jordan, Salt & Pepa, Run DMC & Bon Jovi. “Living on a Prayer” is my SH*T. “Oh Mickey You So Fine, You So Fine You Blow My Mind!” Yes. All of that! He ended his set with the theme-song to CHEERS!!

*drops the mic*

I was dancing non-stop. Drink in hand. In skates. While hoola hooping. I kid you not. I was in my element.

At the end of the night, I came away with a few goodies.

"Where Is The Husband?"

“Nati, where is the husband?” my Ethiopian aunts asked.

Last weekend, my family hosted a bridal shower for my cousin. She’s getting married in Ethiopia this month. Our small celebration included traditional food and dancing, gifts, marriage advice, etc. Tons of fun!

Having a family of foreigners can be a bit challenging at times. In fact, you develop a tough skin growing up in a foreign household. You know, they say whatever they want directly to your face. No shame. For instance:

(Said in the best Ethiopian accent)

“What happened to you? You gained a lot of weight!” Then, they scrunch their faces up in disgust.

“What is going on with your face? If you drink XYZ (insert something from the health food store here), your skin will be clear. “

“What did u do to your hair?? I don't like it.”

“You still haven’t found a boyfriend, yet? What’s wrong with you?”

And my favorite:

“When are you getting married? Your baby cousins are growing too big to be flower girls.”

Gasp!

Yep. I hear these remarks every time I come home. This past weekend, they drilled me. I mean, we were at a wedding shower hosted at my mom’s house. Someone in my family was getting married. Just not me. And it may not be me for some time now. I’m cool with it. My aunts and cousins aren’t. That’s just stateside. Let’s not get into the family overseas. Don’t let me get a $5 calling card to call my aunt in Ethiopia to wish her a Happy Easter. After we get the pleasantries out the way, I get that same marriage question in Amharic. I don’t speak the language, but I definitely understand that golden question. I guess they need time to make travel arrangements. I get it. Trust me, they will have plenty of time to prepare for US travel after I make the announcement. Relax.

I’m approaching 30. That’s an old bride for foreigners. They are used to arranged marriages at the age of 14. Six children by the age of 27.

Yea. No.

How do I respond to this, you ask? Aside from the eye rolls, deep sighs, fake smiles?
Uhhh… I tell them the truth. “I’ve been married for 3 years now. Mom didn’t tell u?” I love to see their reaction when I say that. They actually start thinking to themselves like “There was a wedding? How did I miss that?” Confused as hell.

Sike.

After I get them to chuckle, I hit them with this, “Look. Stop asking. You will be the first to know. I just don’t have it right now. I know you are frustrated, Auntie Mimi. Please!” *walks away* If I had that attitude at the age of 14, Auntie Mimi probably would have yanked my ponytail as I walked away and beat the sh*t out of me with the nearest weapon (telephone cord, wire hanger, etc.) They don’t play with the “American Attitude’ thing.

I digress.

As you can see, weddings are a big deal in my family. It ain’t about the bride and the groom. It’s about the parents bluffing to their friends. Showing off and carrying on. I know my mom is so ready to throw this Broadway production of a wedding. One time, she called me at work to tell me MY wedding colors. She sure did.

I love my parents to death. I know they want me married with children living in a huge house out Northern Virginia somewhere. But, they don’t want me to rush it, marry some loser, and then end up in a nasty divorce 2 years later. They want me to do it right and when I’m absolutely ready. So my folks get that part. They actually stopped inquiring about my relationship status a few years ago.

It’s my aunts and cousins who worry the hell out of me.

An Evening with President Obama at Town Hall

I’d be lying if I said that man didn’t make me tingle when he graced the stage Wednesday night. That man being, President Obama.

Heart fluttering, pits sweating, hands fidgeting. For some reason, I couldn’t compose myself.

“Oooowww!!”
“Wooooo!!!”

Yes, I did the most in cat calling at one of the most powerful men in the world. Shame on you, Nat!

Foursquare coined this event as “An Evening with President Obama at Town Hall.” You know I checked in! I wanted all my followers to know I was in the place to be. And how unfortunate it was for them to have to hear about it through my show-off tweets.

The evening began with a 45-minute wait in the security check line. Felt like the airport. Metal detectors, frisking, bag searching, etc. I was cool with all that. I mean, you have to understand that it’s the President. I’ve never felt so safe in my life. We finally get into the 1300-seat theater located in the heart of Times Square. Balcony seats for the $44 tickets. Not a problem. Better for photographing purposes anyway.

The program begins with a few words from the Gen44 host committee. Gen44 is a new program created to cultivate and empower a rising generation of leaders for the Democratic Party. Read more about Gen44 here.

Their speeches were short, sweet, and very social network. “Very social network”? What you talking about, Nat? They specifically asked everyone in the house to take out their phones and text “I’m In” to 62262 (Obama); Go to Facebook and “Like” the fanpage; Tweet & Facebook your status as “I’m In #Gen44nyc” & Check –in at the official Foursquare location, “An evening with President Obama at Town Hall.” Since I have a bad case of social network OCD, I did of the above repeatedly throughout the night. Social Network is huge and will play a significant role in Obama’s re-election. You’ll see.

Bring out the legendary Roots Crew.

They walked on without an introduction. All you need is a noticeable Questlove to walk on stage. “Oh there go the Roots.” Am I lying? They performed about 3 tracks. Got the crowd hype! Jammin and carrying on. Good stuff. The Roots definitely cater to all audiences. The Jimmy Fallon gig solidified it. They are good money (literally). After the performance, the announcer goes “Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome Jim Messina, the campaign manager for President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election.” Oh! Whew! By the sound of the announcer’s voice, you would have thought the Preso was about to come out. Sike a boo boo. Not yet. Hold your horses. 5-minute speech from him. Then, here he comes!

Now, I hate the word SWAG. Buried it years ago. But, I have to bring it back to life for what I’m about to say. Yo! His SWAG was on a 100 thousand trillion. He glided on to that stage. Just so cool. Waving. Cheesing. I lost it. You would have thought I was at the Prince concert. I went bonkers on steroids. He’s just so, so…. COOL! It’s that simple. It nearly took the crowd 10 minutes to hold the applause for the guy. We just couldn’t stop.

He begins his remarks with a relevant introduction. ““My name is Barack Obama; I was born in Hawaii; no one checked my ID on the way in.”

*drops the mic*

His birth certificate documents were just confirmed that morning and I’m almost sure that was a jab at Trump. Who by the way lost me as a Celebrity Apprentice viewer. He’s rich, bored, and picking on colored folk. Leave us alone! Back to Obama.

Great stage presence. Cracked a few jokes here and there. Especially at the protesters who snuck in with a cloth banner (posters were prohibited). Two little white chicks started a rant about something. They tried to unfold their homemade Michael’s Arts & Crafts banner that they probably stayed up all night making. Seconds later, Secret Service manhandled them. Yanks them into the lobby and throw them out. Easy. Did they really think they were going to get a word in edgewise by disrupting our President? Girl bye! Take your raggedy banner and your little cause elsewhere. Mess around with Secret Service if you want to. And lose your life.

They were quickly booed by the crowd. Obama made fun of them by saying, “See, there’s always something going on in New York City. OK, OK, thank you. All right, so let me just say – no, they can stay. I think they made their point. They’re all right. That's all right.” He added, “But if any of the rest of you has something to say, let’s just knock it out right now.” *pause* “All right, where was I?”

So suave with his.

Let me tell you something. He loves that Michelle. Up and down. He referenced his hair turning gray. But Michelle loves it. *insert cat calling here*
But on to his speaking points… in a nutshell he covered gas prices, troops, healthcare, tax cuts, social security and unemployment. He was short and sweet with his remarks. He acknowledged he had not reached all of his goals and stressed how he needs our help. The job is not over. We are a family. Let’s do this. The End.

I wore red Wednesday night. I wanted him to see me. I think he did. I waved. He waved back. I love that man. He just warms my heart. This was definitely one of my most memorable experiences to date. You’ve got my vote (with your fine self).

My bestie shook the First Lady’s hand at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday. She cried. Soror Michelle is phenomenal. I want to shake her hand, too! *tear* But, I was in New York City working on Easter Monday.

Shortly after receiving her BBM, I got an email with a subject line that read “Join President Obama and The Roots!”

*jaw drops*

Who me?

I was cordially invited by the Young Professionals United for Change to a fundraiser reception featuring remarks by President Obama and a mini-concert by the Roots on April 27th at Town Hall at 7:30 pm.

Yep! I’m going to meet the President tonight. Well, that’s the plan.

I’m probably the only person who didn’t attend Inauguration 2 years ago. I mean, I was definitely in town for the festivities. Attended a few balls here and there. But, I couldn’t get my lazy a$$ up on that freezing morning in January. Now that I think about it, I went to sleep at 6am on Inauguration Day. Why didn’t I just stay in the city like everyone else? Bundle up, take a few shots of Café Patron, and start my trek from U Street to the Mall? What was I thinking? Missing history in my own backyard. SMH! I know. Shoot me. Take away my black card, or my common sense card for that matter. My bad.

But tonight!! I’ll finally be in this man’s presence. He’s on his 2012 re-election campaign and I’m so there. This event wasn’t free. When I initially heard about it, tickets were $100. I know I’m not the only person who rolls her eyes when she sees an expensive fundraiser ticket price. I love our President, but dropping $100 for a short speech & a mini-concert by The Roots just wasn’t in my budget. I know it’s for a good cause. But I just didn’t have it. A week later, I got the same email with reduced tickets. $44. O_O Now, dropping $44 for a short speech and mini-concert by The Roots was in my budget. I can handle that. And I did. Tickets were as good as mines!

I’ll let you all know how it goes.

I’m back. I was cheating on my blog with a thing called Tumblr. It made my so-called blogging life easy. All I had to do was follow other Tumblrs and reblog their posts. No thinking involved. Just go to my dashboard, check out my feeds and re-post. #lazyblogging

Here’s the thing with my Tumblr: If you don’t tumble, you can’t comment. Or something like that. So when I’d post like an 80’s Ebony magazine cover of Denise Huxtable, folks would click on it and probably want to comment. But, can’t. Blower, right? I rarely post any original content. Just photos. Maybe 1 or 2 quotes/tweets. A few interesting articles. That’s about it. Plus, I have a MAC. The layout is dope on MACs. But when viewed on PCs (my work computer), it’s all out of wack. Just doesn’t look as cool as I see it when I click publish. That’s not fair.

My cousin jokingly, (but so sincerely) complained about me clogging her feed on Facebook. My beau said he doesn’t click on my Tumblr at all. It’s just too much. *sigh* My linesister said this in her best Brooklyn accent… “Yo. What’s good with your blog? That tumblr sh*t is dumb, yo! Just pix. What’s up with the content you used to post?” She made me feel like I was something like a subpar blogger, which is good because I don’t think I’m a blogger/writer at all. I just rant and post. After my loved ones shared their thoughts with me, I immediately decided to resurrect this here blog.

P.S. I’m still keeping my Tumblr, though. Just staggering my posts. My fellow tumblr Defending Champs shared that tip with me. Thanks, Wes.

Over dinner this past weekend, the whole Nicki vs. Kim debate came up. Personally, I think Kim's new diss track was weak. It was like I was on the edge of my seat waiting for her to spit some fiyah then the record repeated itself. Like looped back. Huh???? Maybe the DJs did that. But, I didn't care to hear the rest of the track. I heard it gets better towards the end. My ADD kicked in and I closed the window.

2010 BET Hip Hop Awards: The Cypher

Like most people, I swear up and down that I'm not watching the BET Hip Hop Awards. I just can't! Hot ghetto mess. Not my style. *turns her nose up*

But yesterday, I happen to be at the crib channel surfing and guess what's on? I know! I said I couldn't, right? It's THE CYPHER that gets me every time! Hands down the best part of the show. BET thinks they're slick by spreading it out so we are forced to watch the entire show. So last night, I ended up watching the whole show, mainly for the CYPHER. I promise you.

My favorite was (not the suited up Common/Ye/Big Sean/Pusha T joint) the father-son CYPHER with Cube & Rev. Run. How cute! And that damn Diggy!! Don't you just love him? Diggy for President!

Best Vacation To Date!! Martha's Vineyard Recap

The Vineyard, Oh how I LOVE thy!!

I’ve been on a few vacations in my lifetime. Martha’s Vineyard is by far my best vacation to date. Ethiopia & Aruba take the #2 & #3 spots, respectively.

Ahhhh! Where do I start? Let me begin with the pre-vineyard preparation. I don’t know about you, but I love shopping for travel. New bikinis, new panties, new shoes!! All New Everything! Who wants to travel with raggedy old drawers? Preparing for this trip mainly consisted of nothing but shopping!!! Poppin tags is what I do on vacation.

Picked up 3 new bikinis!! Here’s the reason why: I hate repeating swimwear in photos. So redundant! I want that new new in my vacation flix. This number was my favorite.

I have this new fascination with boat shoes, if you haven’t heard. So I picked up a pair of classic Navy Sperrys, which match everything!!! #classic

I hit up the GAP for a few cover-ups, linen shorts, seersucker, etc. An additional 40% off all sale items. You know I had a field day up in there.

Enough about shopping.

Let’s talk about getting to the vineyard. It ain’t easy. It’s an island. Renting a car and driving there, like going to the Hamptons, is not an option. I found this out late in the game. Remember, I’m a Vineyard virgin. This is all new to me. I later discovered that a ferry was involved in getting to the island (you don’t say?) Long story short, I needed to get to the ferry either by plane, train or automobile. Then, hop on the ferry to Oak Bluffs.

These travel options are not cheap at all. In fact, travel to and fro the Vineyard costs more than our accommodations for a week. Yes!

Since I was the trip master for my group, I was responsible for researching places to stay, eat, shop, beaches, etc. Oh and travel, which was a monster in itself.

There were only 5 people in our party. So renting a house wouldn’t be cost effective. Plus, we weren’t familiar with getting around, if we needed a car, etc. So our best bet was to rent a beachfront condo in the center of all the action. Boy, did we luck up on the best spot in town, with a rooftop!!

Fast forward to the day of the trip… Friday, July 2^nd. How did we get to the island, you ask? My roommate and I decided to take the FastFerry straight to Oak Bluffs. That way we didn’t have to worry about getting stuck in traffic, missing the ferry, etc. The FastFerry, aka Seasteak, departed from East 35^th Street in Manhattan, which was perfect for us.

Other folks in our group decided to cough up $500+ and flew directly to the island. The FastFerry took about 5hrs, no traffic. Not bad. But I think we’ll take a different mode the next time we go.

So we arrive on the island around 10:30 pm. My cousin has already given us the inside scoop on the sweet ass condo we booked! We’re ready for the party. Uh slow your roll, Nat! The only nightclub on the island closes at 1am and they stop letting folks in at 12am. Guess what time we strolled in? Oh I dunno, around 12:25am. Clueless as hell. LOL!

Sidebar: We didn’t see any nightlife on this trip besides our own little rooftop party we threw on the 4^th. More on that later.

Day 2: South Beach

No, not South Beach, Miami. South Beach on the Vineyard. Let me tell you!! This was a beach crowded with beautiful black people. It kinda reminded me of the MIH BK Annual BBQ, which is this weekend by the way. The only difference is the folks on South Beach were half naked. Always a good look. So my girls and I laid out, tanned, drank, flirted, played football on the beach, flirted some more, exchanged numbers, etc. It was all kinds of awesomeness. By far, my best beach experience.

The beach can be exhausting. The sun beating on your body will definitely take all the energy out of you. With that said, we missed the club again on Saturday! Yes, we slept right through that thang. LOL! We still had a good time, though. Plus, we’re getting to a stage in our life where we don’t need the nightclubs to have a good time on vacation.

Day 3: Inkwell Beach

Yes, exactly like the movie! This time we came prepared with a cooler of nothing but DRANKS!!! Red cups and all! Tipsy on the beach!

Later that night, we had our impromptu rooftop party after the fireworks display. Although we were specifically told that this rooftop is for quiet time, no parties, silence, etc. We had to do it. I mean, we are grown ups. We know how to be civilized, keep the noise down, drink and have a good time. So we did exactly that! Made a few phone calls. And it was a party. Lots of liquor to get rid of before we flew home on Tuesday. So why not? Our party wasn’t like the town’s only club that closed at 1a. Our joint went on til 4am. No one called the po-lice to shut it down. Everyone had a blast. Peaceful partying. We were some damn good party hosts to be some Vineyard virgins, don’t you think?

Our last day on the island was spent at Nancy’s, Giordano’s & Biscuits. Great Food!!

Leaving the island was sad, but we have to get back to our boring, grown ups lives at some point. We all flew back to NYC to celebrate my cousin’s birthday at Tillmans in Chelsea. I like to call that spot my 'CHEERS'.

We had a small, intimate gathering equip with bottles of champagne, chocolate cake, sexy tanned women, and a recording artist to serenade the birthday girl.

Now, do you understand why this past weekend was by far my best trip EVER? Oh and bringing home a little sand from the beach helped. Hehehe!

2010 BET Awards Recap

Haven’t done an awards show recap in a while. My friends seem to like my commentary. So why not post it on this thing called my blog, which I've neglected like a stepchild? I actually got a blog itch about 40 minutes into the show. I didn't tweet nor read any tweets during the airing. I was so focused on talking my homie's head off about who wore what, "Oh no she didn't", "That was BIG B.E.T", etc. LOL! I'm going to try and regurgitate all my slick remarks from last night.

Before I do so, let me just tell yall that I planned my entire Sunday around this awards show. No Lie! I was in DC this weekend. I purposely purchased the 1:30pm Bolt Bus ticket back to the city...arriving at 5:45pm just so I'd have enough time to get settled in. Grab my dinner. And prepare myself for 3+ hours of straight entertainment honoring my people!!

I don't know about yall, but I hate watching award shows alone. I end up talking to myself, laughing at my own jokes, dancing extra hard, etc. No fun. I need an audience. Luckily, my homie was in the errea needing a 42" plasma to watch the show. "Sure, come over!"

Now, let's start the (pre) show. I missed the entire red carpet. The Bolt hit mad traffic on the NJ Turnpike. I wasn't too concerned about that because BET is airing a special tonight called "Who Wore What?" tonight at 8p. I'll catch that later. I also missed the performances on the red carpet too. Usually nobodies with new singles. If I get bored at work today, I guess I can log on to http://www.bet.com/ and check them out.

Ye opened on a mountain, I hear. Yea, I missed that part too. Eh...

All HAIL THE QUEEN!! Great opening. In fact, I think she's awesome at hosting these types of shows. Lots of energy, humor, great stage presence. She's just dope to me. Her opening skit was tight! We forgot she could flow, huh? Yea, she started with the jazzy flow first. But then she hits us with the freestyle at the end. Fiyah! She held it down up there. She actually looked slim up there. When I say slim, I'm mainly talking about her arms. I didn’t' see any wings (you know that fat hanging from the biceps? Yea... that) Get it, Queen!

First presenter---> Mrs. Jada Pinket-Smith. Fly. Effortless. She does dis!!! Her hot pants were nothing but classy to me. Not exactly sure why I feel that way. She came out. I was like... Damn Jada! Nice! No judgment.

Alicia Keys! Isn't she simply adorable? I saw her baby bump on Good Morning America in her cute off-white romper. She makes it look so easy. You know... playing the piano, in 6 inch Loubos, 5 months prego, climbing on pianos and carrying on. Easy right? Oh and singing her a$$ off while doing all of the above.

#Superwoman. Swizzy scored big! He also did well with that ring he got her! I mean, she deserves it. You can't give Alicia Keys some short sh*t when it comes to bling. Come on! It's Alicia Keys! Come Correct. He did! Well done!

Usher - Why didn't he do “OMG?” I'm sure the crowd would have preferred that over "There Goes My Baby!" And who at BET was in charge of the smoke machine? Yall know exactly what I'm talking about. I’ll touch on that a little later.

Every year, BET has some sort of reunion. One year ,they had the cast of "Good Times," another year, the cast of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” I think Jodeci reunited on the BET Awards, too. Last year, they had the cast of "Boyz in the Hood." So I asked my roomate who could be this year's reunion. Dru Hill came to mind... but no one really cares about them. Who could it be?

Then, the lovely Nia Long comes out looking BAD as hell in that fly a$$ multi-color, strapless dress! As soon as she hit the stage, I knew exactly what BET was going to do next. LOVE JONES! Probably one of the best love stories in Black Cinema to date! #Score for BET!

Nicki, Nicki, Nicki! Now, I like this girl! Can't hate. She's the hottest female MC in the game right now! Here's my thing: I feel like she's trying to be the Lady Gaga of Hip Hop!

Hip Hop don't need that. No, we really don't! Ok, the colorful wigs... Yea, that's her thing!

However, she looks mad artificial up there. Straight Up. Just over the top for me. Congrats on her win, though. SMH!
So back to that smoke machine operator...What the hell happened? Diddy-Dirty Money ---> My 2nd favorite performance of the night! He starts out with the Flocka joint... "I got my billions up, effin with the white folks"... (that's my sh*t). Did yall see Flocka up there? Yes, Waka Flocka Flame! He was up there with Diddy. Yall didn't see him?!!?? You know why? Cus of that damn smoke machine!!! You couldn't see anyone! Hell, I barely missed him. All I saw was a tall, slim youngin with locks flying everywhere. I promise you that was Flocka! I asked a few people after the show if they saw him up there. Waka Flocka Flame? Yes! Flocka! SMH!

Shout out to Diddy and the strobe light. Made me wanna jump up! "Hello.... Good Morning." Ricky Rozay! Did he drop the ROSS? I like calling him Rozay and I like spelling it that way. LOL! Again! Nicki, Nicki, Nicki. It's rapping, boo. Why must you lip sync? Busta did his part at the end. LOL! If Busta can do his million words a minute flow, you can too, ma!

A good look for B.O.B! "Airplanes" is my jam. Mainly because of the white girl Hayden singing on the hook. Ok last night, that wasn't the white girl. That was Keisha Cole on the hook. Um... I like the white girl better.

Shout out to Keisha and her post baby body. And shout out to her baby daddy, Boobie Gibson...who I thought was sitting too close to Prince. That's just my opinion. Then, Em comes out. He was on the orginial of "Airplanes." In my opinion, BET, yall shoulda scratched Keisha Cole from the show and let B.O.B do his set with the white chick, Hayden and the white boy, Eminiem. Just a suggestion.

Em! "I'm Not Afraid"---> my jam. Reminds me of the old Marshall Mathers... Remember Stan?

TIP! We missed you man! Happy to have you back. You and Tiny are too cute! I love yall together. Shout out to Travis Barker. You know what? I think rappers like having the white drummers at these award shows. Travis has made a few appearances alongside a few rappers. Snoop Dogg last year, as a matter of fact.

Then Luda ends the show with Tommy Effin Lee on the drums! See what I mean?

Back to Tip & the Takers! This movie was supposed to have been come out... like Feb! But, Tip was in the BING, Brezzy was trying to redeem himself from the whole domestic violence shituation. Just a lot going on for the cast of the "Takers". I guess they’re back and the movie looks sick! Given the opportunity, I'll holler at the entire cast. No shame! Have you seen the trailer?

Skateboarder Terry Kennedy! Fine! But I won't be watching the show. Sorry :(

Jermaine Jackson, lemme ask you this... so you went to the barber shop and told the barber you wanted "this" done to your fade? SMH!

The highly anticipated MJ tribute by Chris Brown! Hands down the best performance of the night! He killed it and shoulda killed it last year! But you know what, I'm glad he did it this year. Too much drama in the building last year. Jay-Z and his "so called" threats. It was just too much. But, this year was perfect! No Jay-Z in sight. The coast was clear! Well overdue. He murdered the stage. Good thing he skipped "Beat it"(Awww Nat!!) LOL! The light up suits were hot! Oh and the sequin cardy. Sha-weet!

Shout out to Chris Brown's PR team! Awesome job with the "Man in the Mirror." I mean, really! Who's idea was that? The sound of the chorus gets me teary-eyed. At MJ's memorial service last year, they played the "Man in the Mirror." I was crying like a baby! The song is touching as hell! Think of the video from the 80's... all those starving Etherlopians (I can say that cus those are my people)... had me in tears. So yall gonna put Chris Brown up there to sing Man in the Mirror as he reflects on his mistakes over the past 2 years? I was almost in tears reflecting for this guy's mistakes! Tough Man! But! He's forgiven and He's back! Plus, he got the Fandemonium Award! He's back like he left something! Holla!

Something was brought to my attention after Chris Brown's breakdown performance... Drake's turn! He starts off with "Fireworks." If you listen to the lyrics, Drake goes "Who woulda thought Lucky Strike would bring us together." Yall remember when him and Rih "hooked up" at the Lucky Strike in Nyc? So he sings Fireworks (which very well could be about Rihanna) immediately after Chris Brown breaks down in tears about Rihanna. Am I reaching with this one?

Anyway, Drake shoulda sang "Find Your Love"... That joint cranks in the club. I mean, last night, I really just wanted someone to feel on when the DJ played that. No seriously!

103!!! Me: What's 103? Him: You know his 1st album...101, etc. Me: Ahhhh 103!!! Jezzy walked away with a BET award for HARD w/ Rih!

Hey! Look who showed up! Prince! In his pajamas and white pumps! Betcha you won't say it to his face. Prince is and always will be straight to me. The heels & eyeliner means nothing in terms of faggotry when it comes to Prince Rogers Nelson!

Trey's "Yo Side of the Bed" performance was kinda blah to me. Um... then he does Purple Rain! Prince's face read "BET, this better not be my tribute for the lifetime achievement award... I'm just saying." Then Patti comes out and does the instrumental to Purple Rain! Who needs words when Patti is singing. I mean, it's Patti! Say Something!

Janelle Monae is so cute! I love her. "Let's Go Crazy" was perfect for her! This chick does exactly that at EVERY show. Esperanza Spaulding, I've heard so much about her. Never heard her sing! She's dope! Alicia! Prego climbing on pianos. Totally unexpected! Awesome!

BET ends the show with Luda, Khalid, Rozay, Diddy, Busta, Nicki,Tpain & Tommy Lee! Nice!

Fashion Fwd: My Fascination w/Boat Shoes

Despite this shady weather in New York City, summer is here. Ooow!!! Memorial Day weekend, I went to a rooftop BBQ in Harlem. Every cutie in the place had on a pair of boat shoes. I lie to you NOT! Something about that trend stuck with the kid. Being the flirty/fast/fresh Nat I am, I made it my business to compliment every guy rocking a pair of boat shoes. Men like compliments, too. It was my way of breaking the ice.

I love guys in boat shoes so much that I thought about getting a pair for myself. They make them for girls too. Why not? I went to Macy’s, tried on a pair, and fell in love. It was a week before payday so I didn’t do an impulse purchase. But, I knew come 6/15/10, those shoes were as good as mines! Mark my word.

After surfing www.boatshoes.com, I was stuck! There were at least 5 pairs that I wanted to buy ASAP! But, how I look with 5 pairs of boat shoes in my closet? I’m far from a tomboy. I’ll buy 2 pairs! These are my summer colors in terms of casual gear: Gray, Navy, and Tan. I’ll probably rock my boat shoes with some white skinny jeans or cargo shorts, and a tank. Something clean, cute, simple. You know?

Please help me decide!

If you know me well ... then you'd know that I'm a die-hard New Edition Fan. No, I wasn't born in the 70's. No, I didn't go to their shows in the 80's. My first time seeing them live was actually in Chicago in 2002. Mad Late! This was around the time when they (minus Bobby) were about to sign to Bad Boy. Ring a bell?

So, how can I be a true fan if I haven't followed this guys for the past 25+ years they've been in the business? I just am! Ask anyone! Whenever there's a show in town, I'm there! No doubt about it. I even go to their shows alone! Yes, a concert alone. And pay $90 for a ticket. I mean, I don't have any friends who would actually spend that kind of money to see them sing nothing but "old songs. " But, as for me, I'm there with bells on, singing at the top of my lungs and sweating my perm out! No Shame!

Who is my favorite? No... not Ralph Tresvant...lol. It's Ronnie DeVoe! I remember telling my mom at the tender age of 5 that I wanted to marry the tall one with the Jheri Curl. LOL!

I digress...
BBD was in New York City last weekend performing at BB KINGS. I, of course, was in attendance. Again, singing at the top of my lungs and sweating my perm out! Caught some footage from the show. (Excuse the choppy-ness... I was trying to save my battery. Oh and my terrible singing.) I got the hits, though! Cool It Now, Do Me, Candy Girl, and of course, Poison.

I heart Harlem.

When I moved to New York, it was either Harlem or Brooklyn. Brooklyn was cool. Kinda suburban in some parts. You know grass, parks, etc. There's nothing wrong with that. But, I had all that in my hometown, Silver Spring, MD. Harlem, on the other hand, was just COOLER to me. LOL! Rich with history. Fast-paced, and my favorite part...it's still Manhattan! As long as my address read: "New York, NY 100XX" I was good money.

I've been living in this concrete jungle for 2 years now! Yay, Me! My little Ethiopian mother is terrified of this city. She wants her baby home. And she'll get that in about 3-5 years from now.
My 1st crib wasn't in the best neighborhood. So I could see why my mother was so nervous. Although it was hood, I still felt safe.

Ok enough about me and my Harlem experience...

GTFOH: White Sorority Wins Sprite Step-Off

This was first brought to my attention by my linesister, Tejlah. She sent a BBM to the linesister chatroom this morning. I glimpsed at it and thought... well good for them. Then at lunch, my homie Keith tells me that he posted that on his Facebook status... something about it being Black History Month, etc. LOL! So I got back to my desk searching for it to see what's all the hype about.

Oh Me, Oh My!! I was taken aback. Like if I took off my glasses, I woulda thought these were some sistas stepping. I can't & won't hate on them. I am a former stepmaster and stepping is no joke! They deserved it.

The Sprite Step-Off was not a Pan-Hellenic Step Show. To my understanding, it was open to all organizations who are eligible to step. Alpha Phi Omega step, Kappa Kappa Psi & TBS step... none of which are the Divine 9. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

I think folks are beefing because stepping is our thing... originated from Africa, etc. True. I can see that. But just by judging the show... they killed it and deserved to win. That's my take on it. Check out the clip.

NY Fashion Week 2010 - SUNO

Been gone for a minute... Now, I'm back with the jump-off! LOL! Sorry for the hold up, my friends. No excuses. I'll go right into my post.

The closest I've ever gotten to NY Fashion Week was BET's Rip the Runway (LMAO)!!! And that doesn't count! LOL.

Luckily, my homegirl had an extra ticket to an official fashion week show last weekend at Milk Studios. The unveiling of the SUNO Collection. Very, very nice! The set-up was actually different from the shows you see on TV. This show was sort of a museum display of models. Model stood still on the runway as spectators and photographers watched. It was interesting. A lot of cute pieces. None of which I can afford. The collection is sold at Bergdof & Barneys. One day!!

Now, in September, I'm going to try to go to at least one show on my own. A little birdie told me they were moving Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to Lincoln Center. So no more tents @Bryant Park? Hmmm.

Speaking of Rip the Runway, it tapes on 2/27/10. My days of hustling to be in that show are over. I rather sit in the audience and go to the afterparties. My girl/new roommate got me covered this year.

I'm having a Trey Day today. LOL!

I spent like an hour or so (maybe more) catching up on blogs, etc. Trey Songz just stood out today. Sneakily because I have a huge crush on him. But in all honesty, he's taken the R&B by storm. Like, who is hot in R&B now? (Ok, Maxwell is... but besides him.) Tremaine is!

"Ready" is a FIYAH! You already know this! My favorite cuts are "Love Lost", "Black Roses" & "Does He Do It?" He's had 4 singles already. His next one is "Neighbors Know My Name."

He's on the cover of next week's JET mag. (Am I the only person who subscribes to this publication?)

He's about to go on the road with Jay-Z. Blueprint 3 Tour! That's major! Good Look.

Lastly, he's under new management. Kevin Liles!

Let's talk Grammys!

How did yall feel about the show last night? Sub par? Average? Personally, I'm looking forward to the BET Honors tonight! I think that might be a better show. More of our people. You know?

Comedian Steve Colbert opened the show (after Gaga and her haunted house) with some dry humor, ending his set with showing off his IPAD. How'd he get this hands on that? Apple paid a pretty penny for that. Good look, Steve Jobs.

Bey wins "Song of the Year" for "Single Ladies" and a bunch on men jump up on stage to accept the award. Who knew? Tag team Tricky Stewart & the Dream also penned hits like "Umbrella" & “Touch My Body." They got plenty of Grammys at the crib.

Beyonce performed "If I Were a Boy" with an army. I didn't quite get that. Just do "Single Ladies!" Give the people what they want! Love her to death. But, of course, we've seen this before. Cute dress. Great weave. Here's my thing: If you're gonna do Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know"... at least bring her out! She was hot back in her days. She got Grammys too, like 7. That was a hit in 1996. Aren't the Grammys about mixing genres/generations? Look at Gaga and Elton John!

Which brings me to my next topic... folks are talking about Jay-z worshiping the devil in the "On to the Next One" video... Hell! Look at Lady Gaga! She terrifies me! I did, however, peep her pink and green ensemble (skee wee)...still scared the sh!t out of me. She walked away with 2 trophies. Congrats!

Shouts out to PINK and her stringy, strappy bodysuit. She got up on that rope/sheet thingy elevated above the audience in the Staples Center. That's ballsy. Then, had the nerve to splash water on herself and get the people wet. BOLD. Love it! It was sexy, PAUSE. What song did she sing? I was totally distracted.

Black Eyed Peas are straight up COOL ASS PEOPLE, PERIOD! I love them. After all those average performances... the BEPs come out with "I Gotta Feeling" and get the crowd crunk. That's a hot record and the album is DOPE! They took home 3 Grammys.

Jamie Foxx and T-Pain did "Blame It" and got a Grammy for it! The performance was kinda messy. Lots going on. Rock/Rap/Classical. I'm over it. The song is old. LOL! Tpain said something to Jay-z at the end. Did yall pick up on that? Did he say something about Auto-Tune? Are they beefing?

Jay-Z won 3 last night to add to the 7 at the crib! Wow! This guy is awesome. So how did yall feel about Ri, Jigga, and lil Jules accepting the award as a family? Bey need to just come on and give that man a baby, before I do. LOL! At least, Mrs. Carter is finally acknowledging her hubster nowadays. That made my heart flutter.

Ri was rather quiet. She should have presented an award or something. Show that she has overcome the Grammys 09 beat down, you know?

The Michael Jackson Tribute in 3D. Womp! Well, I didn't have my 3D glasses handy. No, I haven't seen Avatar 3D, yet. LOL. With my regular glasses on, it just looked blurry on my 19' tube. The performance was weak. I'd rather see Usher do "Thriller" with Chris Brown and Omarion. LOL! No for real. I'm sleep.

Maxwell and Roberta Flack. #Fail. I love them both. Even downloaded her greatest hits over the weekend. But uh, Maxwell missed every single note on "Pretty Wings." Come on son!!! Where's your vibrato? Roberta's choker damn near choked her. Did yall see that? Personally, she didn't look like the brown Roberta Flack I grew to love. Well, Max won his first of 2 Grammys last night, after 12 nominations in his career. Congrats.

52 years of the Grammys, Bon Jovi never performed? Huh? "Living on a Prayer" is my sh!t! Never knew the name of the song.

The song for Haiti with MJB and the Spanish guy... Eh, good efforts, but I won't be purchasing it off iTunes. Sorry.

2 white guys, 1 black guy, and a mixed kid from Toronto = Em, Travis Barker, Weezy, and Drizzy! Ha! 2nd Favorite performance of the night (BEPs were #1!) Drizzy nominated for 2 lost both to Jay-Z. Fair Enough.

Lastly, Taylor Swift. She's too cute!She won the biggest honor of the night "Album of the Year" beating out "I am ... Sasha Fierce" and "The E.N.D." (BEPs). Go Girl! Well Deserved. 4 trophies for her.

Where was Kanye? He won 2 in his absence.

Hearts 4 Haiti Benefit

Last night, a diverse group of New York City's young professionals of color raised over $17K for Haiti Relief. The HEARTS 4 HAITI coalition is comprised of professionals in the music, media and entertainment communities who want to provide immediate support to Haitians who have been affected by the massive earthquake that took place on January 12th. Hinging on the one-year anniversary of President Barack Obama's inauguration and his challenge to Americans to "give back, Hearts 4 Haiti did exactly that.

HEARTS 4 HAITI partnered with two organizations: Doctors Without Borders and YELE Haiti. All monetary proceeds generated from the event were donated to Doctors Without Borders with a designation to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort. All food, clothing and supply donations were given to YELE Haiti.

"HEARTS 4 HAITI is for NYC professionals who understand the importance of giving back to the world community," says Gardy V. Guerrier, one of the event HEART 4 HAITI organizers. "By attending this event they will become the truest embodiment of the motto inscribed on the Haitian flag: strength through unity."

Guests enjoyed a complimentary open bar from 7:00pm until 9pm provided by Hennessy. DJ Clue, D-Nice, Mick Boogie (str8 80's Retro), DJ Tony Touch (island tunes), DJ MOS, DJ Kiss and others manned the turntables upstairs, while Haitian cultural pride ruled the lounge area downstairs, where the Untouchables DJ Franky spun Haitian Kompa and Zouk music.

I know I promised to do better at this blogging thing in 2010. *looking at my calendar* IT'S JANUARY 8TH... and this is my first 2010 post. (Shame on me!) I have 2 excuses (Yea, Yea, excuses are the tools of the incompetent.... I know, I had a process... but hear me out!)

1/1/10 My linesisters got totally wasted! We dined at Negril in the Village. Served by a cutie on duty. Total Eye Candy.

Ladies: I'm going to let you in on a little secret. HOW TO BAG THE FINE WAITER? 1) Start gazing into his eyes, like they do in the movies, 2) Bat your lashes, 3) Spark up conversation about randomness like the price of tea in China, 4) Leave a generous tip, 5) Write your digits on the back of the receipt and make sure he knows which one you are (girl in the green top, etc.) Seconds later, you have an incoming text from ol' boy. Lock his # in. There you have it! He might even send of 2 chilled shots of Patron on the house.

Notice I said 1/1/10 and not 12/31/09 (NYE). My NYE was average, nothing to call home about. Didn't get a new dress. Rocked something I had. (Yes, I delete pics/untag myself on Facebook so I recycle outfits.)

Excuse #2
1/2/10 I received bad news about a death in my family, so I rushed to DC on Sunday night for the memorial services. (Thanks for the condolences. RIP Mumbi) Spent 3 days in DC. Returned to NYC with my loving mother and cousin in tow. They are in town representing our family business at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference.

I've been playing hostess/tour guide since Wednesday, hence why the blogging didn't pick up when it did. Feel me?

I've gotten the blog itch once again. Plus, I've added a ghost blogger to my team. I'm coming back strong. Thought about changing my layout for 2010. Nixed that. Focusing more on content.

Chris Brown Finally Does an MJ Tribute

Many thought he'd do this at the MJ-saturated BET AWARDS this summer. But there was no CBreezy siting :( He finally shouted out the King Of Pop last night at the Nokia Theater in NYC. Aww, I really missed this guy.

Regarding a Chris Brown concert, I've been to a few. Not shamed to say. He used to sell out arenas... 2 or 3 shows per city. Extravagant props, lights, live band, dancers, wardrobe changes. This go round... not so much. Chris has a smaller venue, 2-piece band, 2 dancers, and performs in a raggedy t-shirt. Damn! Talk about downsizing. Poor thing. That's the price you pay for beating a pop princess' a$$. Tough!

Still love him though!

2 Mezzanine seats to see Dreamgirls at the Apollo. Oh you rock, Destiny! My favorite linesister got me a pair of tix to see this show. At first, I was like "Ooooh thanks!" and totally forgot about it. She gave me the tickets on 9/24 (my birthday). The show wasn't until 11/19.

So the week of the 19th rolls around and everyone is tweeting about the damn DREAMGIRLS at the Apollo! Oh snap! I got tix. Now, I gotta find those bad boys. Located the tix and hit my linesister (VIVARINt thing) up. Remember those tix you got me for my birthday? The show is tomorrow! That means, no Diddy party for us. We were cool with that.

Every time I set foot in the Apollo theater, I get chills. So rich with history... staring at the vintage portraits of past performers. Ahhh! I love black people! I even rubbed the infamous log thingy (then reached in my purse for hand sanitizer. The Swine Flu is among us.) We rush to our seats with glasses of wine and programs in hand. Dim the lights... Now let's start the show!!

I won't ruin it for you all... but like I re-capped the Wiz w/ Ashanti (click here), I will do the same with Dreamgirls. Just point out 5 things that stood out to me. Please watch the movie before going to see the stage play!

* For all the American Idol fans, Syesha (Season 7) stars at Deana (Beyonce's character);

Chaz Lamar Shepard from The Game (Trey Wiggs) played Curtis Taylor (Jamie Foxx's character.) I spotted him before Destiny, a passionate/loyal/avid The Game watcher. And I dont' even watch the show!

* The singing was amazing! Namely, Effie! If you closed your eyes and just listened, you would have thought Jennifer Hudson was up there. I promise you. In fact, keep them open. She favors JHUD too. If you purchased the Dreamgirls soundtrack, like me, then you woulda been singing at the top of your lungs!! "Listen", "Step into the Bad Side," "And I Am Telling You!" So Good!

* The set design was different. Very tech savvy! Everything on that stage was electronic. How the hell did they pull that off? Just lights, moving walls, and a glass desk. That is it! Nowadays, who needs props?

* 2nd best component of the show (aside from Effie blowing everyone out the water) The Costumes! Wowers!!!! I'm going to be a Dreamgirl for Halloween. Dont' steal my costume!!

* That damn James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy's character)... OMG! Showed his a$$. Pure comedy. Basically, made the show with his performance.

2. G.H.O.E is about A&T Alphas (BE.) winning the Howard Step Show (Where they do that at?)

4. G.H.O.E is about cutting a rug on the Groove Phi Groove plot. (They have the best DJ!)

So Saturday morning, my homegirl hits me saying she’s on her way to NYC for the Black Girls Rock! Awards. Coincidentally, I was just on their website the day before trying to figure out how the hell ima get in that bad boy!! Tix were $350. Pass.

You know what they say, "It's not what you know, but who you know!" Pulled a few strings and just like that, I was alongside my homegirl (who also works in the "industry") interviewing celebs on the RED CARPET. (My dream job.. I think).

Celebs included: Mary J Blige, Raven Simone, Naomi Campbell, Queen Latifah, Janelle Monae, Anthony Hamilton, etc. (All were honored!) Fun!! I loved it and it came so naturally. Just talking to celebs about who they are wearing, how did you get involved in such a dynamic organization, what tips/advice to you have for young women, who are you looking fwd to seeing tonight?, etc. I used a mini tape recorder to capture the responses. How exciting.

After the press room, we mingled amongst the black elitist in the industry, open bar sponsored by Ciroc. Later moving on to the actual awards show. Now that show was amazing!!! Regina King (Brenda from 227), Tracee Ellis Ross (Joan from Girlfriends) hosted this show.

Is it me or does his performances super excite you? If you've seen COMMON in concert, you know exact what I'm talking about! He's just a ball of energy. And I don't get hype at hip hop shows (except at a Jigga show...only when he brings Beyonce out.) But this dude right here... had be bouncing off the walls!! The free Henn-rock contributed to that, too.

I was thinking... you know how Serena be all sweaty on the court? And then you have COMMON on stage doing these head spins, breakdances and carrying on... Can you imagine what their bedroom activity is like? I wanna be a fly on the wall. I got to see this!

I will say this... I am an avid hater of COMMON + Serena = Love! Simply cus I want COMMON to be with ME! I used to think I wasn't "earthy" enough for him. But, hell, he done crossed over. No more underground, backpackin for this guy! He'd gladly accept my relaxed hair, today!

The show was great! I heard it got better after I left. Queen Latifah & Q-tip hopped on stage. Just my effin' luck! I read the tweets as I was preparing for bed! FML!!! So, my linesister pings me yesterday about our homecoming concert (North Carolina A&T State University.) Apparently, my Alma Mater is in the news regarding this year's homecoming concert. Gucci Mane is headlining.

Sidebar: GUCCI is one of the hottest rappers in the south right now. I'm just sayin'.

The SGA president stated that this artist promotes gang violence, and the homecoming planning committee failed to do their due diligence to research the performers before the contracts were signed. A&T lost 2 students this year to gang-related violence.

Ok! I can agree with this. However, where was the SGA president and the media back in 1999 when Cash Money Millionaires headlined our homecoming concert? That was a great show! Just a thought.

What blogger gets ghost for 2 whole weeks? Yea, I know, ME!

Let's talk about ME for a change.

I celebrated my 28th birthday last Thursday.

So, let's rewind to Monday, Septemeber 21st. 3 days before my Sexy 28. I'm excited. Got the dress. Got the shoes. Made my appointment at the MAC store. The evite went out over the weekend.
People are excited about my birthday. That's how it should always be.

Someone very special to me said he would come through. I was super-siced! Like, I couldn't sit still at work. All this excitement caused me to get a little wreck less on BBM with this person... and guess what!?! He backs out! "I'm not coming to your party!" *tear* "What you mean you not coming? It's my birthday. I invited you. I want you there!" (The brat in me blurted that out as we discussed this on my work phone.)

Fine! He's not coming! I'll be just fine *cue MJB.* I'm not gonna let this special person ruin my birthday week. But, oh so sneakily, I did :( Yes! #woeisme. Linesister of the Year, Destiny to the rescue! "Meet me at MOCA for drinks after work! No Excuses! Your behavior is totally unacceptable! You oughta be ashamed of yourself!" (Thanks Mom!) A few martinis later, it was back to being all about me and my Sexy 28 again. Whew!

Fast forward to the eve of my birthday, Wednesday September 23rd. My girl and I are invited to the UPTOWN Magazine 5th Year Anniversary Event sponsored by PATRON (the devil.) Free Patron All Night!? See! They knew my birthday was in a few hours. They wanted me f*cked up at the stroke of midnight. Aww hell no! Pace yourself, Nat! No really! Slow down!

Patron is flowing. I'm surrounded by beautiful black people. I'm 28 in a few hours. And one of my favorite dj is killing the tables. DJ M.O.S. I'm in heaven! Can't effin' wait til my SEXY 28!

Midnight hits! I'm 28! And my FACEBOOK WALL is on Fiyah!! I feel so loved. My BBM is blowing up, too. Even that special somebody hit me. I used that as a way to find out if he really meant it when he said he wasn't coming. Uh. Yea. He meant it. Bloop! LOL!

Went to work on my birthday (who does that?) Strolled in at about 9:45am. Didn't really do much work. No surprise. I was really in slow motion that day. Deadlines had to wait. Oh and I had a half day... so that meant... 1.5 hrs of tweeting, replying to facebook wall posts, and thumb twiddling. Around noonish, my team takes me to lunch. My boss, a sista, gave me a giftcard to Carol's Daugther's Back Room. Heard of it? (Click the link) It's their spa. I'm getting a Cookie's and Cream Mani this weekend.

After lunch, I had my early dismissal. Whoo-hoo! Got dolled at the MAC store in Harlem. Went home, chilled. Watch Jay on Oprah. Then, got dressed humming #dontbetardyfortheparty. Ha! Destiny, linesister of the year, scooped me in her drop top 2-seater. Holla! It was a beautiful night! The wind blowing through my tresses added body to my do. LOL!

Around 7:30ish, the lady of the hour arrives at the fabulous Thompson Hotel.

I'm greeted by the chocolate doorman and escorted to my party. A few folks got there before me. I can't be the 1st one at my party. #wheretheydothatat? LOL! Slowly, but surely, people arrived. In fact, a line started to form of folks trying to buy me drinks! hehehe! Grape Mojito was my drink of choice.

DJ MOS provided the music. Just how I like it. Old school R&B, sh*t you could 2-step to. Real chill!
A total of 40 people helped me celebrate my SEXY 28, including that special someone who said he wasn't coming. *blushing*. However, I did get one compliant the entire night.

Male Guest: "Nat, where are all your girlfriends?"

Nat: "They're all here! All 7 of them!" Haa!

Ok, it was a sausage fest! My bad. I mean, I invited every female I knew in NY. (Here's some pix. What's that? 7 girls, not including me?)

Some opted not to come. Hey! More sausage for me! LOL!

Speaking of food, we ended the night with birthday cake from Harlem's own, "Make My Cake" Yummers!

Today, my girl and I ditched work to check out Whitney Houston's Good Morning America (GMA) performance. Hundreds of people packed Central Park's Rumsey Ball Field (Summerstage Area.) GMA did a great job of building/decorating the stage. Nice purple, glittery drapes! Pretty! Huge posters of Whit's promo pic, which I am not a fan of. The crowd was hype! Hell, I was too! I really wanted to hear what she sounded like live. I was, in fact, a little nervous. This was her comeback! She's gotta do it big, right?

Well...

I can't imagine coming back from a cocaine addiction. It sounded like the cocaine ate up her vocal cords. Poor thing couldn't hold a note. No range. Cracking left and right. Talking in between verses. Asking to the crowd to help her out. It was just a SMH (shaking my head) performance. I applaud her efforts for attempting to make a comeback.

I already know she's going to sell records because of who she is. As for a tour, I wouldn't pay to see her live... Unless Alicia, Chaka, and Bey are on the ticket. That's the only way I'm going to sit through another Whitney Houston show.

At GMA, she sang 4 songs... her title track "I Look to You" (written by R. Kelly), "Million Dollar Bill"(written by Alicia Keys/Swizz Beatz) also off the new album. Then, she hit us with the classics, "My Love Is Your Love" and "I'm Every Woman."

Don't you miss the old Whit? I had to dig up a throwback in memory of the Whitney Houston that used to sing her a$$ off!
